What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent Makeup (PMU) or Semi Permanent Makeup (SPMU) as it is also referred to is a process of depositing pigment into the upper layer of skin. Although, it is often referred to as a ‘tattoo’ since a needle can be used to deposit the pigment into the skin, this is not strictly true. A tattoo will use ink and will penetrate the skin to a far deeper level.  PMU is referred to as ‘permanent’ because the pigment will remain in the skin , however the colour will fade over the course of 1-5 years depending on the area chosen as well as individual factors which will change for each client.

There are 2 separate methods within PMU, this first and most widely known procedure is microblading, during this procedure the pigment is implanted into your skin with a small hand held tool. Microblading is great for eyebrows as it gives a clean, crisp stroke and mimics hairstrokes excellently. However, microblading does not always work well on very oily skin. The second procedure is known as Nanoneedle, this is a machine that deposits ink into the skin through an incredibly fine needle. THe machine is very versatile, it can be used for all PMU treatments and is suitable for most skin types. The method used in your treatment will be discussed and decided during consultation.

The most common areas of the body where PMU can be used are:

-Eyebrows

-Eyeliner

-Lips

-Hairline

-Areola (nipple)

The benefits of PMU include:

Time saved on applying makeup daily

Smudge proof makeup

A younger fresher look-new eyebrows can give you an instant brow lift!

Confidence boost-achieve the look you have always wanted

Money saved on buying makeup

The success of the treatment will depend on:

-The clients skin type

-The immediate aftercare by client

-The long term aftercare by client

For two to five days after the treatment, the procedure area may experience the following symptoms:

Flaking, tenderness, dryness and itching, swelling, redness, eyelashes may stick together and eyelids may appear red and puffy after any eye procedures

For at least 5 to 7 days after the procedure or until the area appears to be healed, include the following in your daily routine:

– Apply the provided moisturising balm using a clean cotton bud each time (to avoid infection)

– If the area does get wet, pat dry very gently with a clean towel or tissue

– Do not wear conventional make up for at least a couple of days

*If you have ever had cold sores or herpes simplex in the past it is important that you continue to use medication for 7 days after your lip treatment, as you did 7 days before. This will help prevent an outbreak, which causes discomfort and could result in scarring.
