The desire to have longer thicker hair or to just be able to change your hairstyle is as old as the dawn of civilisation when the ancient Egyptians first started to supplement their own hair with wigs and false braids over 5,500 years ago.
In the 1980s hair-extensions first became popular with the fashionable elite. These extensions were plaited into the hair and fixed in either by sowing or with a glue gun. These extensions did not act like your natural hair and could even damage your own natural hair. A quarter of a century later the technology of hair-extensions has progressed to such an extent that the modern extensions behave and look just like your own natural hair. These new extensions allow you to have thicker looking hair, add length to your hair or just add some flashes of colour in specific areas.

All the hair used in the strands is sorted so that it is all remis, going from the root to the tip, leaving the cuticles all going the same way as your natural hair. The bonds used to attach the hair have the same pH as your hair (5.5) also the bond is composed of polymer chains whose molecular structure is very similar to that of human hair. It is activated by the Great Lengths applicator which bonds the Great Lengths strand with your own hair. It can, however, be easily removed by an expert! which means that they will not damage your hair and allows you to shampoo in the normal manner, straighten your hair using ceramic straightening irons, brush with a soft bristle brush, tint, perm, blow dry, tong or set it in rollers.
The bonding (attachment) process is quick and easy. After a consultation to determine the client’s suitability for hair-extensions (person’s hair must be at least 6-7 cm long and be healthy) and how to look-after the hair, the specially trained hairstylist can book you in for an appointment. The process involves taking sections of your own hair and 15 mm from the scalp the pre-boned hair-extensions are attached using the special Great Lengths high frequency system and application arm, which gently heats the bonds to fuse them to your hair. After completing a whole row of extensions your hair and newly added extensions are then brushed with a flat-headed soft bristle brush to blend them. It is as simple as that!
To remove the hair-extensions is just as simple. A specially formulated solution is applied to the hair and then the extensions are removed with the special tool, leaving the natural hair undamaged and after application of a conditioning treatment restored to its natural condition.
